Gantry cranes and bridge cranes are two common types of lifting machinery, differing significantly in structure, application, and operation.

Firstly, structurally, gantry cranes typically have a portal-shaped frame and two outriggers. These outriggers travel along rails, while the portal frame moves laterally between them. In contrast, bridge cranes have a rectangular frame and two trolleys that run on rails. This rectangular frame usually connects two larger beams, and the trolleys move longitudinally between these beams.

Secondly, in terms of application, gantry cranes are primarily used for outdoor lifting and transporting large goods, such as steel bars and cement at construction sites. Bridge cranes, on the other hand, are mainly used for indoor lifting and transporting goods, such as handling and stacking goods in warehouses and workshops.

Furthermore, in terms of operation, gantry cranes typically use a wheel-rail drive system, where electric motors drive the wheels to move along rails. Bridge cranes, however, typically use a suspension drive system, where an electric motor drives the suspension system to move the goods. In general, gantry cranes and bridge cranes differ significantly in structure, purpose, and operation. In practical applications, the appropriate lifting machinery must be selected based on specific circumstances to complete the task. Furthermore, since lifting machinery is a hazardous special equipment, strict adherence to safety operating procedures is essential to ensure worker safety.
